Writing and defending a methodology chapter
Build a defensible chain of research decisions
A methodology chapter explains why the study's assumptions, design, sampling, collection and analysis can answer its question. A methods account also reports what was actually done. A strong defence connects choices, alternatives, practical constraints and limits rather than listing textbook definitions. Reporting guidance helps reveal omissions but should be matched to the design and institutional expectations.
Use while designing and documenting a dissertation or thesis, then revise against the actual study. The argument should allow a reader or examiner to assess each consequential choice.

A polished chapter cannot repair absent data or an unidentified causal comparison; disclose and explain limitations.
